Council Properties Information

Girl Scouts of Shagbark Council operates three program centers/camps
along with the Girl Scout Service Center that are available year round
for troop/group meetings, programs, volunteer training and other meetings.

Cedar Point – Carbondale, Illinois

• Camp Cedar Point serves as the summer resident camp for Girl Scouts of Shagbark Council.
• Located in Crab Orchard National Wildlife Refuge on 250 acres with a beach on Little Grassy Lake.
• Girls enjoy primitive camping as well as camping in hogans, (roofed, wooden structures surrounded with screening) and platform tents.
• Sunny Hall (the dining hall) is available for program activities.
• Bruce Lodge and Sahara Lodge are available for overnight and program activities.

Camp Whispering Oaks – Salem, Illinois

• This program center/camp is situated on 33 acres of wooded land, meadow area, and waterfront property offering primitive, tent, hogan, and lodge overnight facilities.
• The Lazaretti Lodge was built in 2000 and features a walkout basement, deck, two fireplaces, two kitchens and two restrooms equipped with showers.
• This property also features a recreation building and picnic shelters that are all equipped with fireplaces.
• The lodge was rededicated in 2006 in honor of the camp’s gracious donors, a former Girl Scout leader and her late husband, Raymond & Margaret Lazaretti.

Camp Wildwood - Vincennes, Ind.

• This property offers open park like areas surrounded by trees and gentle hills with primitive, hogan and lodge overnight facilities.
• Ivy Lodge is a large two-room structure featuring an equipped kitchen, rest room and two fireplaces.
• The Bierhaus hogan was constructed in the summer of 2002 through generous funding provided by the Bierhaus Foundation.

Girl Scout Service Center – Mt. Vernon, Illinois

• Centrally located the Girl Scout Service Center houses a volunteer resource center, conference room, shop featuring official insignia, uniforms and Girl Scout gift items and offices for the professional staff.
• The Girl Scout Service Center is also used for girl program events and activities, adult volunteer training opportunities and committee and board meetings.
