Product Program ~ General Information

Decades ago, Juliette Gordon Low, Girl Scouting’s founder, was convinced that girls should learn the skills to earn their own way and contribute to troop/group support. She wanted girls to learn skills that would increase their self-confidence and that would add new dimensions to their lives.

Product Programs

Girl Scout product program activities have helped girls learn and practice invaluable life skills, like planning, decision-making, and customer service. These activities are directly related to our purpose of helping all girls realize their full potential and become strong, confident, and resourceful citizens.

The product program activities present opportunities for girls to:

• Learn the importance of goal setting and develop plans to achieve a goal.
• Put the ethical standards of the Girl Scout Promise and Law into practice.
• Learn about entrepreneurship and basic business and financial planning.
• Develop high levels of self-esteem, self-reliance, and personal achievement.
• Heighten their career awareness.
• Develop interpersonal and teamwork skills.

Every local troop/group is encouraged to set realistic goals, such as planning field trips and community service projects, to accomplish during the year. The money earned from product program activities helps the troop/group achieve its goals.

The Girl Scouts of Shagbark Council sponsors two product programs each year, the famous Girl Scout Cookie Program and the Fall Product Program.
