Destinations

Destinations are exciting national and international travel opportunities for girls ages 11 – 17. There is something for everyone from film production internships to wilderness backpacking, from tours of London to surfing in Costa Rica. The Destinations are sponsored and hosted by Girl Scouts of the U.S.A. or by another Girl Scout council.

After reviewing the travel opportunities, please complete the application process. Girls may apply for up to four Destinations, each on a separate application form. Contact a member of the Destinations Advisory or Brenda at btorrez@shagbark.org or 1-888-317-6353, if you have any questions.

Deadline: November 1, 2007

All applications must be submitted to the Girl Scouts of Shagbark Council for consideration and review. Applications are then forwarded to the sponsoring/hosting council or GSUSA for selection. Applications received after November 1 may still be considered, depending on the host deadline. However, most Destinations fill quickly and your first choice may not be available after the deadline.

Destinations Advisory

The Girl Scouts of Shagbark Council is currently accepting volunteer applications from adults of all ages for a newly forming Destinations Advisory, a team of 3 to 5 volunteers who have special interests in Destinations and in forming a new Teen Travel Special Interest Troop.

The Destinations Advisory will review Destinations applications, provide additional support and guidance to applicants, and assist with confidential grant approvals for Destinations applicants. In addition, the Destinations Advisory will be trained on current Destinations to promote Destinations locally or possibly mentor and advise girls on travel arrangements and planning.

The Destinations Advisory will also assist in organizing and recruiting volunteer leadership and coordination of a new Teen Travel Special Interest Troop. This opportunity may include researching possible local travel trips, surveying girls’ interest, possible trip chaperoning for those interested, assisting with Teen Travel Special Interest Troop electronic and other communication, and planning an annual information/showcase meeting. Current Teen Travel Troop activity includes Teen Adventure Club offered in the summer, as well as bus trips to Memphis, Nashville and Hannibal in 2008.
